Officially released, Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is more powerful and saves battery

Qualcomm has released the latest smartphone chipset, namely Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. The chipset is intended for middle-class smartphones, with various performance improvements from the previous series.

quoted The telephone from GSM Arena, Friday (17/03/2023), the presence of Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 answers allegations that Qualcomm’s newest chipset released this month is called 7 Gen 2.

But despite the mention of the name, the chipset promises a performance boost. The main Kryo CPU core is clocked at 2.91GHz and the entire CPU provides a performance boost of over 50% compared to the previous Snapdragon series.

It is not known which Adreno GPU series is installed, but Qualcomm claims that the GPU is able to provide 2x the performance. Remarkably, even though it has fast performance, this Qualcomm SoC doesn’t waste battery.

The vendor from the United States claims that this Qualcomm SoC tends to be 13% more efficient when compared to the previous chipset series.

Game lovers don’t worry, because this chipset has an Auto Variable Rate Shading feature that renders the foreground of the game in high resolution and leaves the background in low resolution. The goal is to save the battery when the cellphone is used to play games.

Volumetric Rendering is also available, which was previously installed on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The Image Signal Processor or ISP chipset has also been upgraded to 18-bit Triple ISP.

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 specifications

This improvement allows smartphones to perform low-light photography by stacking 30 images together. The chipset also supports smartphones with a 200 MP sensor, HDR video capture with 3 times the exposure from 2 cameras simultaneously.

In terms of AI technology, Qualcomm’s AI engine offers 2 times better performance and 40% battery savings per watt.

Regarding connectivity, the chipset uses the Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF System with downloads of up to 4.4 Gbps. More importantly, phones running the 7 series will finally be able to take advantage of the 4G/5G Dual-Sim Dual Active (DSDA) feature.
