The Story Behind the Presence of Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition

There is an interesting story behind the presence of the Asus Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition, a laptop that was released specifically to celebrate 25 years of Asus laptops on the MIR space station.

Birthdays are often considered as something very special. So special, large-scale celebrations are not uncommon to commemorate.

From just eating together, holding a party, to rewarding yourself with something unusual. Asus, in this case, is one example, has a unique way of celebrating its special moments.

Asus chose to release the Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition to mark its laptop’s long journey of 25 years after leaving for the MIR space station.

MIR itself is a space station of the Soviet Union (now Russia) which is considered the most successful. In this facility the cosmonauts (astronauts) in space reside permanently for long periods of time.

P6100 and the First Space Mission

Back in 1997, at that time the Asus P6100 laptop was chosen as a support device for the mission at MIR. In this mission, P6100 is known to be able to survive in a microgravity environment full of cosmic radiation for 600 days without any problems.

The laptop is also a milestone for Asus which years later transformed into a manufacturer that continues to prioritize innovation and quality in each of its products.

What Asus produced four years later (2011), is proof of that. That’s when the next innovation brought us to the first ZenBook. Carrying the full name ZenBook UX31, this laptop comes with a “Zen Garden” design concept that has circular strokes.

Not only that, ZenBook UX31 is also one of the company’s first ultrabooks and won two awards, namely the iF Design Award and the Good Design Award.

Asus innovation does not stop here. In 2013, ZenBook UX301’s turn was introduced. This laptop is also no less special, because it is the first laptop in the world with a Gorilla Glass 3 screen.

This laptop was successively followed by the presence of the first ZenBook Pro equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX GPU and a 15.6-inch screen with 4K UHD resolution and ZenBook UX305, which is still the ZenBook laptop with the highest number of awards. Both were released in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

The first ZenBook by design convertible highly flexible add to the length of the company’s portfolio in 2016. They are ZenBook UX360 and ZenBook UX360.

Since then, the ZenBook line with convertible designs has always been present with technological updates every year. The last name, also known as ZenBook 3 is even built from a body made of “6013” aerospace-grade aluminium.

To support the trend mobile computing increasingly popular, Asus also introduced the ZenBook Flip S (UX370) in 2017 and the ZenBook 13 (UX331UAL) in 2018.

Just so you know, Asus ZenBook Flip S (UX370) is still a laptop convertible thinnest in the world to date. In addition, this laptop is also the first to adopt the ErgoLift feature.

While the ZenBook 13 (UX331UAL), is still the lightest ZenBook series to date, weighing only 985 grams. Apart from being provided chassis very sturdy, this laptop is also the first ZenBook to be certified to pass the US military standard endurance test (MIL-STD 810G).

Entering the Mobile Productivity Era

Approaching 2020, laptops appear not only as office devices, but are increasingly being demanded to be able to make users more productive in various ways. The need for a laptop that is portable and powerful is even higher. Here Asus managed to go one step further with a dual screen laptop.

ScreenPad Plus first appeared on ZenBook Pro Duo 15 (UX581) and ZenBook Duo 14 (UX481), and has proven to have a lot of potential to be developed into features that can increase user productivity.

In 2021, Asus introduced the Control Panel feature for ScreenPad Plus. The feature that integrates directly with the popular creative application from Adobe makes it possible ScreenPad Plus transformed into a customizable virtual control panel.

Asus also brings an update to the Screen Xpert feature on ScreenPad Plus so that it has a more modern, simple, and easy-to-use interface.

Now, in 2022, Asus is introducing the Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition. This is a special edition laptop with a unique space theme that also marks the 25-year journey of Asus laptops on the MIR space station.

According to the theme, Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition comes in Zero-G Titanium color which is often used in various spacecraft. Not only that, Asus also designed this laptop specifically with space-grade durability.

This laptop is able to pass the US Space Systems Command Standard (SMC-S-016A) extreme endurance test, which includes operational tests at temperatures of 61⁰C and –24⁰C.

But of course, passing the extreme endurance test is not the only advantage of the Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition. This special edition laptop is also equipped with a feature called ZenVision, a 3.5-inch screen that is behind the main screen of this laptop.

ZenVision is like a window on spacecraft and space stations that allows passengers to see the vast cosmic horizon.

ZenVision can be customized through presets and animation modes that have been provided, making the Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition look more personal. Currently, arguably no laptop other than the Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition comes with ZenVision.

On the kitchen side, the Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition is supported by a 12th Gen Intel Core supported by high-speed LPDDR5 memory. This laptop is also equipped with storage in the form of a PCIe Gen4 SSD and the most modern connectivity for the best user experience.

The Asus OLED screen technology – as the name suggests, is also another advantage of the Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition.
