Watch out! Many Phishing Sites Sell iPhone 14, Here’s the Mode
The world’s consumer enthusiasm for the iPhone 14 is exploited by hackers. They deliberately set up a phishing site that sells the iPhone 14 when it is being used to steal money and personal data of buyers.
Through an official statement received on Tuesday (6/9/2022), Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 14 will be announced to the public on September 7, 2022.
However, ahead of the launch, Kaspersky cyber researchers discovered a terrifying phenomenon. Kaspersky has found thousands of examples of phishing sites or pages that offer iPhone 14 purchases.
When in fact the site was designed to empty the victim’s bank account and steal the user’s Apple ID account. The number of sites found is quite large.
From August 10, 2022 to August 25, 2022, Kaspersky detected more than 8,700 phishing sites related to the latest iPhones.
As for the phishing pattern that is carried out first, hackers will create fake shop pages that offer pre-orders for iPhone 14. They create web pages, resembling e-commerce sites, and offer discounted prices so that consumers are more interested.
Then because the official photos of the iPhone 14 have not appeared, the hackers tricked them with photos of old iPhone models to attract users’ attention.
Next, after the victim enters their bank account data to make a payment, the funds will be debited from the account. Unfortunately when the money has been transferred the victim will not receive the order.
Apart from taking victims’ money, hackers also gain access to the victim’s Apple ID, email and login password, as well as contact and payment information.
They can also access the victim’s iCloud, where they store private photos, scanned documents, and more. These photos can later be used by attackers for identity theft or even extortion.
“Users should always be very careful and not enter their personal data on suspicious pages, to avoid becoming a victim of cybercriminals,” said Kaspersky security expert Olga Svistunova.
