Seeing this, Tokopedia’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Nuraini Razak, revealed five tips to avoid online fraud by sending APK files.

1. Don’t just click or download the APK file

When receiving a message containing an APK file from an unknown number, for example in the form of a digital wedding invitation, bill, delivery receipt and so on, avoid pressing or clicking or even downloading the file.

If the user has already clicked or downloaded an illegal APK file, Nuraini suggests immediately returning the cellphone to factory settings or factory reset.

“Change all data in all application accounts that store personal data, such as cellphone numbers, e-mails, passwords and PINs, in banking applications and those related to other digital transactions, such as Tokopedia,” advised Nuraini.

2. Reconfirmation to a Trusted Party

Always re-confirm through trusted or official channels, when receiving suspicious messages or APK files from parties claiming to be close relatives or other agencies.

Tokopedia itself always delivers information about promos, sweepstakes and other information through official channels, such as the website www.tokopedia.com and the blog www.tokopedia.com/blog. As well as verified social media, and email with the domain @tokopedia.com.

“If you receive a message with an APK file on behalf of Tokopedia but it’s suspicious, report it immediately via the 24/7 Tokopedia Care service or www.tokopedia.com/help,” said Nuraini.

3. Routine Change Password

Update the operating system, applications and software on cellphones regularly to increase device security.

The public is also advised to routinely change passwords for all accounts, including banking applications and those related to other digital transactions. Then avoid using the same password between accounts.

Furthermore, when changing passwords, never share OTP codes or passwords with other people to avoid account leaks.

4. Do not trade outside the official platform

Official online shopping applications such as Tokopedia use a joint account system (rekber) to protect users when transacting online. This system allows the buyer’s money to be forwarded to the seller only if the product has been received by the buyer according to the order.

Therefore, if there are unscrupulous sellers who ask to continue communication or transact outside the official platform, immediately report it through the agency’s customer service. At Tokopedia, users can report through the Tokopedia Care help center.

5. Don’t Share Personal Data on Social Media

Finally, do not provide personal information through social media. Starting from the number cellphonehome address, mother’s full name, bank account number, NIK, KK and other personal data. Because this action has the potential to cause data leakage or theft.
